Join our Veteran's Team
“To preserve and promote the memory of those persons interred within Middleborough” has been the third purpose of this charity since our inception. Everybody sees the presence of Veterans in cemeteries; Medallions and Flags are prominent throughout cemetery landscapes. Society made a promise to our Veterans that we will recognize their service ALWAYS, and our Veteran's Team is this charity's effort to complement Middleborough's ongoing efforts while fulfilling one of our founding purposes.
This charity partners with the Veterans' Services office of the Town of Middleborough.There are more than 2,500 Veterans interred and remembered throughout Middleborough's 33 cemeteries, and all of their graves must be Flagged prior to Memorial Day. This task requires considerable involvement, and is dependent upon the proper placement of medallions. "Assisting with the Flagging of the Graves of all Veterans" and "Maintain Valor by ensuring the proper placement of Medallions" are 2 of the many Community Service Opportunities available.
This charity has ongoing and proposed efforts that do and will "Commemorate our Veterans". We document and clean headstones. We will be resetting and repairing headstones. As we work in cemeteries, we repair and replace flags. We find medallions that move from where they were intended and are missing from where they should always remain. Some of the proposed ideas for future efforts involve GPS, QR codes, 3D printing, cemetery maps, and tours. Volunteers produce great ideas and Volunteers are needed to change the ideas into actions!
