Reed Cemetery is one of Middleborough's 6 town-entrusted cemeteries.
This cemetery has been mowed and cleaned by volunteers of the FoMC since the spring of 2012. Prior to this, the cemetery might not have been attended to since 2008, which gave it the look and feel of being an abandoned cemetery (the photos, above). Tremendous progress has been made here, but there is still a lot of landscaping and tree pruning to be done here.
This cemetery is located to the left of the Gilbert Peirce Cemetery. Reed is the older of the two cemeteries. They were established in the corner of neighboring farms. There are all types of grave markers here, ranging from field stones through slate and marble stones and up to granite stones. Almost half of the stones here have some sort of issue; there are many lying on the ground, some are broken, some are not secured to their foundations, some are against the stone wall. All of these issues are fixable.
