The "Honorary Mayor of Middleborough" is our annual election-style fundraising contest. We aim to simulate a real election, but there are obvious differences. Candidates do NOT have to be residents of Middleborough and candidates CAN be any age! The “votes” are cast with dollars. Corporations and other types of Organizations can vote. As a fundraiser, whichever candidate raises the most money earns the title!
Candidates must file Nomination Papers with 20 signatures. Candidates much choose a “Deputy Mayor” running-mate, a deceased person from Middleborough’s past, as well as a “Supported Cause or Organization”, an entity which improves Middleborough’s future, and campaign with both the person and entity during the campaign season.
Nomination Papers are always due by January 31st. The campaign season is February 1st through March 31st. The Winner is announced at an Inauguration Ceremony held in early April. The title is held for 1 year, until the next Mayor is sworn in. We trust that the winner will embrace their ceremonial role, and have fun with it!
The current Honorary Mayor of Middleborough is Jennifer (Freitas) Carter.
The 2020 Inauguration Celebration has been CANCELLED due to the coronavirus.

We invite everyone to become a candidate in our "Honorary Mayor of Middleborough" contest. Each of us has an interest in seeing improvements in cemeteries. Our "campaign season" include activities designed to maximize exposure, such as our "Candidates Forum" that will air on Middleborough cable, our radio spots, our "Signature Events", and our Inauguration. This contest is a great way for you to raise awareness of yourself, as well as honor someone you knew, and promote a "supported cause and organization" that improves Middleborough.
