Fundraising Dinner - Headstone Repair: What is Possible in Your Town
after May 1: download the form, fill it out, and present both it and your check at the door.
Headstones can be fixed!Nature takes it's toll on headstones. The stones become hosts for lichens and molds. Trees and shrubs grow beside stones, eventually moving and even toppling them. Sometimes trees will even envelope them! Tree limbs do fall and shatter stones. Given enough time, without intervention a cemetery will become a field of rubble.
Broken Slate and Marble stones has been a problem for a long time. What is the best way to fix them? When we search for a solution, often we find misinformation, or even outdated information. In our cemeteries, we see evidence of many successful repairs as well as failed repairs. How do we learn the best techniques in use today? We consult the experts! Ta Mara Conde is an expert. We met her at 2 conferences, have seen her work at 2 fairly local cemeteries, and have followed her press coverage. She has agreed to speak in Middleborough and discuss what can be done to fix stones! Lorenzo's Italian Restaurant has been host to our Annual Meeting for 3 years. It is the perfect venue for holding this event due to it's size, location, and of course it's food! We encourage people to come for the dinner, but enable people to come just for the speaker. Seating in the function room is limited to 100 people. We are welcoming people from neighboring communities, so please mail in your form by May 1st to reserve your seat! |
