Benson Cemetery
off East Street, in either Wareham or Carver

As of November 2012, the exact location of this burial ground became known to the FoMC. Previously, we knew only of it's existence and it's general location. The Benson family was a Middleborough family, and Benson's Pond (now Benson's Bog) was across the street from Nathaniel Cushing's house. The Benson family graves are at the back of this property. Thanks to GPS, today we know that the graves are not located in Middleborough.

This cemetery is referred to in the book "History of the town of Middleboro, MA" by Thomas Weston, as the "Benson Cemetery". He describes this cemetery as "Benson Cemetery, South Middleboro, which has not been used for more than one hundred years.".

Thatcher recorded the location as "Graves back of Nathaniel Cushings house, 3 miles beyond South Middleborough". He recorded 2 Bensons and 1 Morison. Weston referred to this location as Benson Cemetery.

The 3 people known to be buried  here, with headstones, are:
Joshua Benson - Died October 9, 1781, in his 78th year
Polly Benson - Died August 12, 1795, 16 years 22 days
William Morison - Died December 2, 17xx, 15th year
