Revolutionary War Gravestone Preservation initiative
The American Revolution began with "the shot heard around the world" in Lexington and Concord on April 19th, 1775. Middleborough was not the site of any battles, but our militia answered the call of Boston and beyond. Massachusetts contributed the most number of soldiers of all the Colonies.
There are 141 Veterans of this war in 14 Middleborough cemeteries. We would like to honor these Veterans by "Preserving their Gravestones". The FoMC did this for our Civil War Veterans. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts is commemorating these events through the Office of Travel and Tourism. https://massachusetts250.org/ A consortium of organizations working to together to commemorate these events is Revolution250. https://www.revolution250.org The events of April 19th, 1775 lead to the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4th, 1776, also an event being commemorated. https://america250.org. The war that began with our militia ended with the signing of the Treaty of Paris on September 3rd, 1783. |

His body lies in distant lands. His grave unknown to all his friends. And their in silence it must lay. Until the Resurrection day. |
